2017 Scholarship Information

The Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of nearly 14,000 professional women of color in 282 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

The Bucks County Chapter of The Links, Incorporated will grant one scholarship of $2,000 to an African-American student who has achieved academic excellence, demonstrated leadership, served his or her high school and community, has the potential to succeed in college, and demonstrates financial need. The scholarship will be awarded in May 2017 and be applied to the students’ educational expenses for the 2017-18 academic year. Scholarships are renewable for up to an additional three years, depending upon the availability of funds. Recipients must submit a full year’s academic transcript each summer and maintain satisfactory academic progress in order to receive assistance for subsequent academic years. Scholarship funds are released directly to the college and payable to both the college and the recipient.

Each applicant must:

            · Graduate from high school by August 31, 2017

            · Be accepted to a two or four-year college or vocational technical institution by June 30, 2017

            · Have a B or better Grade Point Average (GPA)

            · Reside in Bucks County or attend, as a boarding student, one of the private secondary schools in Bucks County

How to Apply: To apply, each applicant will submit the Scholarship Application, a high school transcript, and two letters of recommendation – one recommendation must be from a high school teacher or counselor and the other recommendation from another adult who knows the student, either a teacher or someone who is familiar with the student’s contribution to the school or community. The deadline for submission is March 6, 2017. Letters of recommendation should describe the student’s academic achievement, service to the community, and potential for success. The Bucks County Links Scholarship Committee, which includes educational professionals, will select finalists from the pool of applications. Applicants may add additional pages or print responses on the computer and paste the responses into the appropriate sections. Finalists will be contacted by phone and invited for an interview by the committee. All application materials should be assembled into one package, if possible, and sent to:
